13 French troops killed in Mali operation against militants

At least 12 French soldiers have been killed in a helicopter crash during an operation against terrorists in Mali.

French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed his "deep sadness" over the incident.

The accident happened on Monday evening, a statement said.

France has had about 4,500 combat troops in west Africa since 2012.
