Dubai-bound plane makes emergency landing after hijack bid

A passenger armed with a gun tried to storm a cockpit in a failed bid to hijack a plane flying from Dhaka in Bangladesh to Dubai.

The Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG147 was on its way to Dubai from Dhaka via Chittagong.

However, the pilot managed to carry out an emergency landing at Shah Amanat International Airport in Bangladesh’s Chittagong.

According to local reports, the majority of the 142 passengers on board were able to disembark and security forces have surrounded the aircraft in a bid to deal with the gunman.

A man suspected of trying to storm the cockpit was arrested, according to AFP news agency.

The Boeing 737 aircraft was immediately surrounded when it landed at the airport as police talked to the suspected hijacker.

Images posted on social media showed crowds gathered on the tarmac.
