The Duke of Edinburgh has voluntarily surrendered his driver's licence weeks after getting into a car accident.

"After careful consideration, The Duke of Edinburgh has taken the decision to voluntarily surrender his driving licence," the Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

This comes after the 97-year-old apologised to the woman, who suffered a broken arm in the collision.

Philip formally retired from public life in 2017, and Queen Elizabeth II, 92, has also scaled back her workload in recent years.
