Cuba has appointed the country's first Prime Minister in more than 40 years.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel handed the role to tourism minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz.

He has been appointed for a five-year term and the nomination was quickly ratified by the parliament.

The post of Prime Minister was scrapped back in 1976 by then-leader Fidel Castro.
