Ennaceur sworn in as Tunisia’s interim president

WAM

Tunisian parliament speaker Mohamed Ennaceur has been sworn in as the country’s interim president.

The smooth transition of power in the birthplace of the Arab Spring came hours after the death of President Beji Caid Essebsi on Thursday.

Essebsi, who was 92, helped guide the North African country's transition to democracy after the 2011 revolution.

The UAE’s leaders have sent their condolences to Ennaceur on the death of President Essebsi.
