An ally of German Chancellor Angela Merkel has warned British Prime Minister Boris Johnson that the European Union (EU) will not be strong-armed into compromising its principles.

Norbert Roettgen made the comments on his official Twitter account, saying, “Neither boastful speeches nor bullying will succeed in making us give up #EU principles and unity.

On Thursday Johnson said he would negotiate a new Brexit deal.

The new British Prime Minister threatened that if the EU refused, he would take Britain out on the October 31 without a deal on its future relations.
