Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has visited the birthplace of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.
The Mexican leader says he is seeking peace and reconciliation after a US jury convicted the infamous drug trafficker earlier this week.
He told a crowd in Badiraguato, an area strongly associated with cartels, that people must not be “stigmatized.”
Obrador also announced a development plan for the town that includes a new highway and university.
