An attempt to impeach US President Donald Trump has failed.

The bid was blocked by the US House of Representatives on Wednesday evening.

Al Green, a Democrat from Texas, filed the resolution shortly after the House voted to formally condemn Trump's 'racist comments' directed at four US congresswomen.

Replying to the latest development on Twitter, the US President said "ridiculous" attempts to impeach him were now "over".

"This should never be allowed to happen to another President of the United States again!" he said.
