As several states in the US continue to ease lockdown restrictions, US President Donald Trump stepped out of the White House for the first time since March 28.

He flew to the presidential retreat at Camp David in Maryland for what he described as a "working weekend".

Trump will return to Washington on Sunday for a Fox News Channel "virtual town hall" event and plans a trip to Phoenix on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, California and New York continued to maintain lockdown measures despite nearly half of US states relaxing stay-at-home orders.

Texas announced a phased-in reopening of businesses on Friday, with restaurants, retail stores and malls allowed to open at 25 per cent capacity.

So far, the country has recorded 1,131,492 positive cases and over 65,000 deaths.
