Abu Dhabi hosts WHO Emergency Medical Teams global meeting

The sixth World Health Organisation (WHO) Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) Global Meeting kicked off today in Abu Dhabi, marking the first edition to be held in the Middle East.

With over 1,300 participants from 140 countries, the meeting will run until November 7, and focuses on strengthening global health emergency response capabilities.

The event is organised by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, in partnership with WHO and the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP). It brings together healthcare leaders, experts, and organisations to discuss strategies for improving emergency medical response, including the WHO’s EMT 2030 Strategy.

Topics covered include climate change and health emergencies, with key speakers from WHO and global health agencies.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, highlighted the growing importance of EMTs in addressing global health crises. Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, emphasised Abu Dhabi’s role as a global healthcare hub and its commitment to improving emergency preparedness.

The meeting also features exhibitions showcasing the latest innovations in emergency medicine and crisis response, with more than 26 exhibitors from local and international organisations.

This event underscores the UAE’s dedication to building resilient healthcare systems and strengthening global cooperation in health emergency management.
