Authorities in Abu Dhabi extinguish huge blaze on Yas Island

A huge fire that broke out a construction site in Abu Dhabi's Yas Island on Friday has been contained.

Teams from Abu Dhabi Police and Abu Dhabi Civil Defence responded to the incident minutes after it was reported.

Videos circulating online showed thick black smoke billowing into the sky.

Posting on social media, Abu Dhabi Police wrote: "Teams from Abu Dhabi Police and Abu Dhabi Civil Defence have attended a fire that broke out on a construction site this afternoon on Yas Island. Abu Dhabi Police has advised to obtain updates from official sources only."

Operations at Yas Island have gone back to normal.
