Driver arrested after 4 hours of fatal hit-and-run accident

Ras Al Khaimah Police

A truck driver, who fled the scene after fatally running over a man on Ras Al Khaimah's Sheikh Muhammad bin Zayed Street early Saturday, has been arrested.

In a statement released on social media, the Ras Al Khaimah Police said they detained the man within four hours of the incident after closely monitoring road surveillance cameras.

It showed that the driver rammed his truck into another parked truck and knocked down the driver, who had stepped outside.

He then fled to another Emirate.

The driver's truck was traced to Sharjah, and teams from the Emirate's police force were roped in for his arrest.

The victim's body was moved to a nearby hospital.

The case has been referred to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
