Authorities in Dubai are cracking down on cooking gas cylinder suppliers who don't comply with official standards and specifications.

Inspections have been stepped up to ensure that cylinders are filled only in accredited factories and are transported and stored properly.

A number of traders were recently suspended for violating the rules and legal measures were taken.

The inspections, led by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) involves teams from Dubai Police, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Municipality, Dubai Civil Defence, Department of Economy and Tourism, Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Emirates Gas, and Emirates General Petroleum (Emarat).

The DSCE is the only authority in Dubai responsible for carrying out tasks related to issuing permits for trading petroleum materials, defining petroleum materials that may be traded, and related activities, as well as monitoring and inspecting trade facilities.

"The inspection team has developed a joint action plan to combat illegal gas cylinder trading. It has also set up monitoring mechanisms for companies operating in this sector to ensure compliance with the relevant laws and regulations," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy.
