The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has set August 31 as the deadline to submit entries for the second edition of the Dubai World Self-Driving Transport Challenge.

Prizes worth up to AED 6.3 million are up for grabs at the event which is open to startups, leading companies as well as the education sector.

The submissions will be assessed by an international jury and the finalists will be announced in the final quarter of 2020.

Those qualified will move on to the Practical Test stage, which is planned to start in June 2021.

The Challenge falls in line with the Dubai government's plans to convert 25 per cent of all journeys in the emirate into autonomous mode by 2030.
