Dubai Police has warned motorists against driving when feeling tired, sleepy or suffering from certain health conditions, after a driver lost consciousness and crashed his car into another vehicle on Umm Suqeim Street.
In a statement released on Saturday, the police said the driver lost control of the car, and it veered off the road before crashing.
They did not say when the accident occurred but said "traffic patrols secured the area, managed traffic flow and facilitated access for ambulance and rescue vehicles".
Evidence was collected from the scene, and an investigation launched, the authority added.
“Some drivers may underestimate seemingly minor (health) symptoms, but in a moment they can become the direct cause of a fatal crash,” warned Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police.
The officer urged drivers to take sufficient breaks before getting on the road and to pull over and rest if they feel exhausted or sleepy.
He added that those suffering from high blood pressure, heart disease or psychological disorders must avoid long drives, or take regular breaks.
One step goes a long way in protecting the lives of everyone on the road, the officer added.
