An Emirati sailor who saved eight fishermen from drowning at sea has been honoured by Dubai Police.

The authority hailed the swift response and intervention of Issa Mohammed Al Falasi, who rescued eight men and also retrieved the bodies of two others after their boat overturned during a fishing trip.

Al Falasi was honoured in a ceremony attended by Major General Ahmed Mohammed Rafie, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Community Happiness & Logistics Affairs, and other senior officials.

"During a recent fishing trip, Al Falasi noticed a person being carried by the waves at a distance. After rescuing the man and giving him medical aid, he realised that nine of his companions were missing and needed assistance," Dubai Police said in a statement.

"Al Falasi conducted a search and managed to save eight fishermen, but was unable to rescue two individuals as they had already drowned before he could reach them," the statement added.

Major General Rafie said that Al Falasi's efforts reflect the commitment of UAE citizens to extend a helping hand, particularly in challenging situations.

Al Falasi expressed his gratitude to Dubai Police for honouring him, affirming that his actions were motivated by a sense of humanitarian duty and his commitment as an Emirati to assist others.

He advised all individuals planning fishing trips or outings to take necessary precautions and adequate safety measures.
