H.H. Sheikh Abdullah calls for restraint between India, Pakistan

WAM

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, has urged India and Pakistan to de-escalate tensions following India’s airstrikes on Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

Sheikh Abdullah called on both nations to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation that could threaten regional and international peace.

The call comes after India launched airstrikes earlier today targeting what it described as terrorist infrastructure in nine locations across Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Pakistan’s military said six sites were hit, with at least eight people killed.

In response, Pakistan said it shot down five Indian fighter jets and launched strikes into Indian-administered Kashmir, reportedly killing three people.

Tensions have sharply increased between the nuclear-armed neighbours following a deadly attack last month that killed 26 tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed that diplomacy and dialogue remain the most effective path to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

He also stated that the UAE will continue supporting initiatives aimed at peaceful conflict resolution and alleviating humanitarian suffering.
