H.H. Sheikh Mohamed extends UAE's 'Year of Sustainability'

WAM

UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has announced that the 'Year of Sustainability' will continue into 2024.

Taking to his official social media handle, Sheikh Mohamed said the decision to "extend it" was taken to "reflect (the country's) ongoing collective commitment to protect and preserve the environment for the benefit of future generations."

The announcement also marked the UAE's National Environment Day.

"Building on the UAE Consensus achieved at COP28, we will continue to work hand in hand with the global community to pursue a more sustainable future for all," he added.

Sheikh Mohamed had announced 2023 as the 'Year of Sustainability' last January.

The UAE successfully hosted UN Climate Summit COP28 and witnessed the historic 'UAE Consensus' that approved a deal that would, for the first time, push nations to transition away from fossil fuels to avert the worst effects of climate change.

Through out 2023, it saw several green initiatives and activities been green-lighted, and focused on environmental sustainability by inspiring collective action through a nationwide commitment towards sustainable practices.

In 2024, the 'Year of Sustainability' continues to invite everyone that calls the UAE home to join in the collective effort to adopt sustainable practices through a range of community-driven initiatives and activities themed around sustainability.
