A young Iraqi girl who has been mourning the recent death of her horse has received a special gift from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Eight-year-old Lania Fakher from Kurdistan Region was devastated following the death of her mare 'Jesno', which was a gift from her father when she was five.

She had been nursing the sick horse although the veterinarian had advised her to keep away from it.

A video of the girl mourning the loss of her close friend went viral and led to an outpouring of sympathy on social media.

Sheikh Mohammed has now gifted a group of horses to Lania and also pledged his support to establish an equestrian training centre for her.
