His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, announced the launch of the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority to support the city's sustainability goals.

The authority will promote environmental initiatives and increase the number of green spaces and natural reserves in Dubai - increasing it by 60 per cent by 2040 and supporting Dubai’s overall goal of 100 per cent clean energy by 2050.

It will also be tasked with supporting Dubai's 2033 target of becoming one of the world’s top-10 ranked cities in leading environmental and resource sustainability indices.

The initiative, of which Ahmed Mohammed bin Thani will be appointed the Director-General, is aimed at creating a solid foundation for the green economy to flourish.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, emphasised the city's commitment to becoming one of the world's most environmentally resilient cities and setting an example for sustainable urban development.
