Authorities in India have announced changes to the Grade 10 and Grade 12 board exams conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) over rise in COVID-19 cases.
Exams for Grade 10 have been cancelled, while Grade 12 assessments will be held at a later date.
The board exams were set to begin on May 4.
The country's education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said the final assessment for Grade 10 will be based on "an objective criterion to be developed by the Board".
He added that the new date for Grade 12 exams will be announced following a review on June 1.
"A notice of at least 15 days will be given before the start of the examinations," the minister tweeted.
The situation will be reviewed on 1st June 2021 by the Board, and details will be shared subsequently. A notice of at least 15 days will be given before the start of the examinations.
