A man has been fined AED 50,000 and banned from using Twitter for a year after he insulted the fans of a sports club online.

He was convicted by the Al Ain Appeals Court for tweeting inappropriate images that offended the club's fans.

The court also ordered the confiscation of the devices that were used to commit the crime.

The authority said the man's behaviour went against the spirit of sportsmanship and healthy competition between teams.
