Dubai Police have confiscated as many as 1,097 illegally modified vehicles for causing noise and disturbance.
The cars were fitted with speed boosters in violation of traffic laws.
The crackdown is part of a major campaign against souped-up vehicles, which was launched on February 11 in coordination with Bur Dubai Police Station.
As many as 994 cars were confiscated on Jumeirah St, 79 vehicles on Al Wasl St, 21 on 2nd of December St, and three vehicles on Zabeel St.
The violators were of nine different nationalities.
Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of the General Department of Traffic Police, said the penalty for illegal vehicle modifications is a AED 1,000 fine and 12 black points. The vehicle will also be impounded for 30 days.
