New device to catch motorists who block pedestrian access

WAM

Dubai Police have launched a new monitoring device to increase safety at pedestrian crossings.

Drivers who do not give way to pedestrians will be detected by the smart AI-powered units and issued fines.

The device also has inbuilt sensors which will notify drivers via a red flashing light, indicating footpath users.

The system was unveiled during Gitex Technology Week and will be powered by a solar panel that is mounted to the top of the device.

Violators face AED 500 in fines and six black points.
