Sharjah has announced new rules to regulate school transportation in the emirate.

As per the administrative decision issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, school transportation can only be offered by operators authorised by the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority.

It adds that educational institutions can offer the transport services themselves or employ a third party if they meet the guidelines.

It will be under Sharjah's transport regulatory body's jurisdiction to issue permits for buses, drivers and to issue new commercial licences to the transport companies.

Administrative fees and fines related to school transport activity shall be issued by a decision from the Sharjah Executive Council.
