Sharjah Police seize 131 kg of narcotics in cross-border drug bust

WAM

Sharjah Police have helped dismantle a global drug trafficking network operating between Canada, Spain, and the UAE.

The operation, which stretched from Toronto to the Spanish coast and into UAE ports, led to the seizure of 131 kg of narcotics and psychoactive substances.

Seven suspects were arrested in the UAE, including an Arab man who used his wife and two children to cover up his smuggling activities.

Authorities began tracking him after noticing repeated family entries into the country, eventually uncovering the wider network through surveillance and coordinated raids.

Five other suspects of Asian nationality were also caught, with evidence linking them to the distribution of drugs locally.

Investigators uncovered a maritime smuggling route stretching from Toronto to Malaga, with shipments concealed in containers of auto spare parts. One such shipment was intercepted at a UAE port.

Police also seized nearly 10,000 capsules of controlled medication, along with tools used for drug concealment and geo-location drops.

All suspects have been referred to judicial authorities, while the Ministry of Interior continues to work with international partners to track down remaining operatives abroad.
