A student has died and 11 others were injured after a vehicle rolled over on the Hatta-Lahbab Road, Dubai Police said on Tuesday.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Acting Commandant Assistant for Operations Affairs, said initial investigations suggested the accident was caused by speeding, negligence, and lack of attention by the driver.
He added, "This led to a loss of control, a sudden swerve, and a collision with a metal barrier, ultimately causing the vehicle to overturn off the road into a sandy area. The student lost their life, while the others were injured and transferred to hospital for treatment."
His Excellency Major General Expert Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Acting Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, highlighted the importance of parents ensuring their children are transported safely to and from school or college.
He also emphasised that speeding, sudden manoeuvres, fatigue and driver negligence are major contributors to accidents and urged all drivers to exercise caution, get rest before driving, avoid distractions, and prioritise safety to prevent accidents.
