A technical malfunction at a gas plant was the reason behind the power outages in parts of Sharjah on Friday.

The Sharjah Government Media Bureau said the issue has been rectified and the power supply was gradually restored.

It added that specialised teams sprang into action to fix the malfunction at a gas plant in Al Saja'a area, which disrupted the flow of gas to the power stations.

Al Majaz, Al Ta'awun, Abu Shagarah, Al Yarmouk and Al Nahda were some of the areas affected by the outage.
