Turkey has denied the UAE's involvement in any illegal spy operations in Istanbul during a telephone conversation between the Attorneys-General of both nations on Thursday, following allegations that had been circulating online.
In a statement issued by the UAE Attorney-General, the Turkish Public Prosecution affirmed that there is no unlawful activity or suspicious conduct attributed to the UAE or its citizens.
The Turkish Attorney-General noted that he visited Istanbul's prosecution office to review the circulating information with security officials, confirming that no suspicious behaviour was observed involving UAE citizens.
The General Prosecutor of Turkey also issued instructions to the relevant authorities on removing any allegations against the UAE published in media outlets and on social media, following verification that the material circulated was inaccurate.
In this context, the UAE Attorney-General commended the statement issued by the Turkish Minister of Justice concerning the ongoing investigations in Istanbul, noting that the statement aligns with the discussions held during the telephone call with the Turkish General Prosecutor.
He also added that Turkey's response demonstrates its authorities' commitment to clarify the facts and prevent the spread of rumours.
Both sides also discussed strengthening judicial cooperation and enhancing communication channels.
