Two children have died in a fire, which broke out in a house in Fujairah's Al Tuwiyain area.

An eight-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy were the victims of the blaze which erupted in their family home.

According to Fujairah Police, the civil defence operations room was alerted to the incident at 2:00 am on Tuesday.

Emergency response teams were quick to reach the site and control the fire but were unable to save the two Emirati children. They rescued a five-year-old child who sustained serious injuries.

An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Major General Mohammed Ahmed bin Ghanem Al Kaabi, Commander-in-Chief of Fujairah Police, expressed his condolences and wished the injured family members a speedy recovery.

Brigadier Ali Obaid Al Tunaiji, Director of the Fujairah Civil Defence Department, emphasised the importance of taking adequate fire safety measures at home, especially in the run up to the summer season.
