UAE calls Israel actions 'reckless' at UN Security Council

Condemning Israel's attacks on Hamas leaders in Doha, the UAE has reemphasied the country's full support for any measures that Qatar takes to protect its sovereignty.

Speaking at the emergency session of the UN Security Council on Thursday, Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to the UAE President, emphasised the Council's "continued failure" to act against Israel's violations of the UN Charter, clarifying their severe consequences on regional and international peace.

Gargash added that the attack will delay an end to the war in Gaza, highlighting how Qatar, Egypt and the US have played a role in efforts to secure a ceasefire, release hostages and resume humanitarian aid.

He also described Israel's actions as "reckless belligerent", adding that its threats of land annexations and attacks on neighbouring countries are destroying peace efforts and threatening regional stability.

He called on all countries to work together and achieve peace and security for a better future, reaffirming the centrality of international law and the sovereignty of states.

Gargash reflected on the UAE's complete support for Qatar, referring to the recent visit of the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Doha following Israel's attack.

The emergency session was summoned by South Korea, with participation from several countries including Qatar, Jordan, Turkey, US and Israel.
