The UAE has expressed solidarity with the Philippines over a typhoon that killed dozens of people and left others missing.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended its condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of the Philippines.

The typhoon, named Co-may or "Emong" in the Philippines, blew through Luzon Island and Agno with gusts of up to 102 kph, killing at least 25 people.

A total of 31 people have died and seven remain missing since several storms and typhoons hit over the last week, according to the Philippines' National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

The storm is headed next to China, where emergency protocols have been activated. The country has already been grappling with several deaths after a year's worth of rain fell in a matter of days.

According to weather forecasts, moderate to very heavy rainfall and strong winds are forecast over northern Philippines, Taiwan, southern Ryukyu Islands, southern Japan, and eastern China over the coming days.
