UAE hails ICJ ruling as clear rejection of Sudan’s allegations

WAM

The UAE has welcomed a decision by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to dismiss a case filed by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), citing a clear lack of jurisdiction.

The court's ruling effectively ends the proceedings, removing the case from its docket.

In response, the UAE reaffirmed that the SAF's allegations were unfounded and politically motivated. The case, officials said, was a deliberate attempt to deflect attention from the SAF’s own role in Sudan’s ongoing conflict.

Reem Ketait, Deputy Assistant Minister of Political Affairs and UAE Co-Agent, described the ruling as a “resounding rejection” of efforts to misuse the court for misinformation.

As Sudan’s civil war enters its third year, the UAE reiterated its call for an immediate ceasefire, urging both the SAF and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to commit to negotiations and allow unrestricted humanitarian aid.

Ketait emphasised the need for international efforts to support a civilian-led political process in Sudan, independent of military influence, and to hold those responsible for atrocities accountable.

The UAE says it will continue working with regional and international partners to promote peace and stability for the Sudanese people.
