UAE pledges additional $200m Sudan funding

The UAE has pledged an additional $200 million (AED734 million) in humanitarian funding to Sudan, taking the overall total to $3.5 billion. The announcement was made at the High-Level Humanitarian Conference for the People of Sudan, in Addis Ababa.

Posting on X, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: "The High-Level Humanitarian Conference for the People of Sudan, is the first to be held for Sudan this year, will serve as a catalyst for upcoming conferences that are scheduled to assist the people of Sudan.

"The additional aid reflects the UAE’s unwavering humanitarian values: to stand in solidarity with the Sudanese people in the face of a deteriorating humanitarian situation.

"As we approach the holy month of Ramadan, a time of mercy and compassion, the UAE calls for this sacred period to be honored with a humanitarian ceasefire to alleviate the significant suffering endured by the Sudanese people. This is not merely a humanitarian request – it is an obligation under international humanitarian law."
