President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has congratulated Mark Carney on Liberal Party securing a fourth term in the Canadian federal elections.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, also dispatched similar congratulatory messages to Carney.

Carney will step in as Canada's Prime Minister after Liberals retained power in the country's election on Monday, but fell short of the majority government.

The Liberals were leading or elected in 167 electoral districts, known as seats, followed by the Conservatives with 145, with votes still being counted.

The Liberals had needed to win 172 of the House of Commons' 343 seats for a majority that would allow them to govern without support from a smaller party.
