UAE renews call for cessation of hostilities in Ukraine

UAE Mission to UN

The UAE has reiterated the call for immediate de-escalation and the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine during the UN Security Council meeting on Wednesday.

The UAE Mission to UN reiterated the "call for a cessation of hostilities and a just and lasting peace that respects Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, in line with the UN Charter".

"We strongly encourage discussions to re-establish a joint mechanism to ensure the protection of civilian ports, shipping and other necessary elements of food distribution and to potentially create momentum for broader diplomatic breakthroughs," the statement read.

The UAE also stressed the need to build "on existing efforts to work towards an agreement that eases food insecurity and creates momentum for broader diplomatic breakthroughs" and urged "all parties to follow international humanitarian law".
