The Social Sector Committee of the Education, Human Development and Community Development Council has discussed national initiatives supporting families and community cohesion across the UAE.
The meeting, chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, reviewed ongoing social sector efforts to reassure communities, support families, and strengthen social values, highlighting programmes linked to the Year of Family 2026.
These initiatives aim to place families at the heart of national priorities, promoting stability, social cohesion and sustainable development.
Sana bint Mohammed Suhail, Minister of Family and Chairperson of the Child Digital Safety Council, presented updates on the comprehensive national plan for the Year of Family under the theme “Growth and Belonging.”
The plan focuses on enhancing family and community cohesion, raising societal awareness, and developing policies, legislation, and benefits to support family stability.
It also includes initiatives for couples preparing for marriage and young families, and promotes family-friendly workplaces.
Shamma bint Sohail Al Mazrui, Minister of Community Empowerment, outlined the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen the role of the third sector, expand family participation in social activities, encourage volunteerism, and promote social responsibility.
Shamis Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Chairman of Abu Dhabi’s Department of Community Development, highlighted the emirate’s programmes supporting vulnerable groups, senior citizens, low-income individuals, People of Determination, and volunteers.
Abu Dhabi’s Family Growth Agenda was also reviewed, including initiatives such as the Medeem Initiative, Al Ghars Parenting Licence, and Nabdh Community Hubs.
Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director General of Dubai’s Community Development Authority, discussed the emirate’s outreach efforts to families, People of Determination, foster families, and senior citizens, including awareness campaigns on mental wellbeing, protection cases follow-up, and the Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum Family Programme.
Mariam Majid Saeed Al Shamsi, Chairperson of Sharjah Social Services Department, highlighted initiatives promoting intergenerational cohesion, empowering senior citizens, and providing social, economic, and health support to families, while strengthening community spirit and family bonds.
The meeting underscored the UAE’s commitment to placing families at the center of national development and fostering a culture of solidarity, support, and shared responsibility.
