The UAE and Russia have called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, following the strike on a hospital in Gaza.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the UAE said they strongly condemned the Israeli attack that resulted in the death and injury of hundreds of people and called on the international community to intensify efforts to reach an immediate ceasefire.

On Tuesday, the UAE voted in favour of Russia's resolution in the UN Security Council that responded to critical humanitarian needs and called for a ceasefire. However, they expressed disappointment at not being able to garner sufficient support from the Council.

The UN Security Council is expected to vote on Wednesday on a Brazilian-drafted resolution that calls for a humanitarian pause in the conflict between Israel and Hamas and to allow aid to enter the Gaza Strip.
