The UAE has launched a major initiative to boost patent approvals, encourage innovation and inspire talent to submit applications.

The goal is to cut registration costs and speed up the patenting process, aiming for a significant rise in patent registrations and enhancing the UAE’s global competitiveness.

The Ministry of Economy's 'Patent Hive' initiative was unveiled at an event with universities and research centres, focusing on collaboration between the public and private sectors.

The plan is to reduce patent registration time from 42 to just 6 months, and to increase the number of patents from 4,481 to 6,000 by 2026.

Incentives are also offered to students and young innovators, including reduced fees and zero-cost registration for those under 21.

Training and consultations will be provided in partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to build local expertise and raise awareness about intellectual property.
