UAE’s first eco-friendly desalination plant opens

The UAE’s getting greener, thanks to the launch of the Emirates’ first eco-friendly desalination plant in Abu Dhabi. The pilot project uses solar power to create drinkable water from the sea. Experts say it’s essential to develop green solutions for making potable water, as desalination requires ten times more energy than fresh water production. Demand for water is set to grow by 30% in the UAE by 2030. It’s hoped the experimental plant will prove to be commercially successful within a year.
