The world's largest mosaic art installation, the 'Zayed and Rashid Mural', has been unveiled in Hatta.

This monumental tribute to the UAE’s founding fathers, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, is part of the #ZayedAndRashid campaign, which celebrates major national occasions.

Spanning 2,198.7 square metres on the slope of the Hatta Dam Water Falls, the mural recreates a historic photograph of the founding fathers from the time of the UAE’s founding.

It replaces a previous mural that also honoured the two leaders' legacy and has been recognised by Guinness World Records as the largest mosaic artwork in the world.

This installation is part of the Dubai Street Museum initiative, launched in 2016 to showcase Dubai’s rich cultural identity through distinctive public art.

The project is a successful collaboration between Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office, and Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA), aimed at connecting the community with public spaces in new and creative ways.

The mosaic, led by Russian artist Sergey Korbasov, involved over 100 artisans from around the world and took four months to complete, using 1.2 million individual pieces.

Set against the stunning Hajar mountains, it incorporates natural materials from the Hatta region, blending seamlessly with the local environment.

The artwork’s colour scheme, inspired by the traditional attire of the founding fathers, adds both historical and emotional depth to this extraordinary tribute.
