Abu Dhabi Summer Sports has opened at the ADNEC Centre, offering residents a large indoor venue for sport and fitness during the summer months.
Running until August 23, the event covers around 48,000 square metres, up 26 per cent on last year, and will feature 29 different sports across more than 70 courts, pitches and activity zones.
Organisers say ten sports are being introduced for the first time this year, including pickleball, handball, mixed martial arts, Muay Thai, virtual cycling, golf simulators and beach volleyball.
Returning activities include football, basketball, padel, tennis, badminton, volleyball, table tennis, action cricket and running.
The event is organised by ADNEC Group in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and is designed to provide an air-conditioned environment for sport and recreation during the summer.
More than 365 events and competitions are scheduled over the next two and a half months, including the Special Olympics UAE National Games and the Tactical Games.
Several government entities will also host community programmes, workshops and family activities focusing on health, wellbeing, culture and inclusion.
The venue will be open daily from 6am until 1am throughout the summer.
