Brazilian umpire hospitalised after heart attack in Melbourne

Brazilian tennis umpire Carlos Bernardes was rushed to the hospital after suffering a heart attack while in quarantine in Melbourne.

The incident comes ahead of next month’s Australian Open.

More than 70 players and their entourages are confined to their hotel rooms for 14 days and unable to train for the February 8-21 Australian Open after passengers on three charter flights returned positive tests for COVID-19.

Reports suggest that players who arrived on different flights have also been undertaking a mandatory quarantine, however, are permitted to leave their hotel rooms for five hours a day to train.

A total of 10 people associated with the Grand Slam have now tested positive for the virus, four of which are players.
