Novak Djokovic has helped Serbia progress to the semifinals of the inaugural ATP Cup team event in Sydney.

The world number two overcame rising Canadian star Denis Shapovalov 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 to book his team a last-four clash with Russia.

Djokovic's teammate Dusan Lajovic had earlier crushed world number 21 Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 6-2.

The other semifinal encounter will see the Nick Kyrgios-led Australia play either Belgium or Rafael Nadal's Spain, who are on court later Friday.
