The opening practice sessions for the Japanese Grand Prix have taken place this morning, under conditions described by drivers as "terrible". Persistent rain played havoc with conditions on the track, causing several drivers to lose control during the second session, in which Red Bull's Daniil Kvyat set the quickest time. Nico Rosberg was second fastest, just ahead of his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton. In the opening practice, Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz was the quickest, half a second ahead Kvyat. The weather is expected to improve over the weekend.
