Cycling legends and former Tour de France stage winners Ján Svorada and Peter Velits have announced their participation in the inaugural L’Étape Dubai by Tour de France, from February 1-2.

The two global stars were introduced at a press conference in Dubai on Thursday, where they also shared their excitement about the growing local cycling scene. Both will be in town ahead of the race, participating in pre-event festivities and meeting fans.

The event, dedicated to non-professional cyclists, will see participants from around the world coming to Dubai to experience the thrill of riding alongside the spirit of the iconic Tour de France.

Ali Omar, Director of the Sports Events Department at Dubai Sports Council, highlighted Dubai’s role as a global hub for cycling, with a diverse range of safe tracks across the city, making it a top destination for cycling enthusiasts.

He also pointed out that the race route would showcase the best of Dubai, including the iconic Al Marmoom Conservation Area, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, and Expo City Dubai, which will host the race’s finish line.

Among the event’s ambassadors are Czech cycling legend Ján Svorada, who has three Tour de France stage victories under his belt, Peter Velits, a three-time World Champion in the Team Time Trial, his brother Martin Velits, a key member of elite cycling teams; and Jakub Truksa, a promising talent representing the sport’s next generation.

The main race day will take place on February 2, offering cyclists of all skill levels two exciting courses: a 101 km race for seasoned riders and a 50 km ride for enthusiasts.

Participants can also look forward to two sprint sections sponsored by Škoda, with opportunities to compete for the coveted Škoda Green Jersey.

The event kicks off on January 31 with activities at the Tour de France Village at Expo Village Park, where visitors can enjoy interactive exhibits, cycling workshops, and even a Kids race and Family Ride.

Free preparatory ‘Welcome Dubai Rides’ are also available between January 29 and 31, offering cyclists a chance to get familiar with Dubai’s cycle tracks before the big race.
